Early Life

Padma Lakshmi has been brought up as a Tamil Brahmin in Chennai. Her father divorced her mother when she was still a toddler. Her mother immigrated to the United States soon and Padma Lakshmi remained in India with the grandparents. She joined her mother in America at the age of about four years after two years.
Padma was raised up in New York and subsequently in California. At school, she was also bullied since she was different and spoke with an accent.
Padma Lakshmi had an intense illness named Stevens-Johnson syndrome at the age of 14 and stayed three weeks at the hospital. After only two days at home, she gets in a terrible car accident, and has her hip and her arm fractured. That caused a large scar on her arm. However, initially, she was embarrassed about that scar, but with time, she realized that scar was a part of her.
She completed her education in high school in California and afterward went to Clark University in Massachusetts. It is there that she pursued theater and literature and completed her bachelor degree in 1992.
Modeling Career
At the age of 21, Padma had been sighted by a modeling agent where she went on a study-abroad trip in Madrid. Not long afterward she was connected with the world-trip- modeling, at Milan, Paris and New York. She was a model, she walked big fashion brands: Armani, Versace, Ralph Lauren and others.
Padma Lakshmi was a well known name with her graciousness and the scar which made her shine in the positive way. Helmut Newton, a very renowned photographer, captured her much.
Padma Lakshmi was on the covers of such significant magazines as Vogue India, Elle, Harper Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, etc. She appeared nude on Allure magazine in 2009- a reference to her self confidence.
